Biography
Dong Lin Zhang is a Shanghai artist born in 1955. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department at Shanghai Normal University in 1983, and taught at the Fine Arts Department at China Textile University of Shanghai (renamed Donghua University in 1999). In 1987 he moved to Australia.
In recent years, his main works include "海派文化发祥地"(Haipai Culture Birthplace), "白玉兰广场"(White Magnolia Square), and "1933老场坊"(1933 Old Workshop). These pieces were commissioned by the 虹口区 (Hongkou district) government which were later published and made into post stamps and post cards used by the China Post.
Other notable pieces, one of which was a 8m x 2m piece named “光明行” (Guang Ming Xing), were commissioned and collected by Jiangsu Xin Chai Technology Group.
Since 2015, Dong has been invited to participate in the Shanghai Art Fair. The annual art exchange was established in 1997 and is held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre which houses many works from well known domestic and international artists. Since 2017, Dong has also been invited to participate in the Taipei New Art Fair.
He has also been successfully selling his pieces at numerous auctions, notably Poly International Auction and Guangdong Chongzheng Auction.
Dong continues to paint and travels between Melbourne, Australia and Shanghai, China.
